To be eligible, students must enroll as full-time students and take a minimum of 15 credits per term during the Fall/Winter semesters.

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants need to have an outstanding academic record with a minimum A+ average (or equivalent) in their previous studies. International students must also meet specific language requirements upon admission, such as achieving a minimum score on standardized English language tests like the Cambridge Assessment of English, Duolingo Test of English (DTE), IELTS, Pearson Test of English (Academic), or TOEFL.

The Chancellor’s Award can be renewed for up to three additional years. Failure to meet the criteria in any given year will result in the scholarship not being awarded or renewed.

President’s Award: $2,500 Non-Renewable:

The Algoma University President’s Award is a non-renewable scholarship offered to international high school graduates starting their first year of undergraduate studies. This entrance scholarship amounts to $2,500. Eligible students must enroll as full-time students and take a minimum of 12 credits per term during the Fall/Winter semesters.

To qualify for the President’s Award, international students who studied in an Ontario secondary school must achieve a grade between 80 and 89.9 percent in their top six Grade 12 U/M courses submitted for admission.

Dean’s Award: $1,000 Non-Renewable:

This scholarship is for international high school graduates commencing their undergraduate studies. It amounts to $1,000 and is awarded to those who enroll as full-time students, taking a minimum of 12 credits per term during the Fall/Winter semesters. To be eligible for the Dean’s Award, applicants must have attained a minimum B+ average (or its equivalent in their country) on their previous academic record.

Award of Excellence: $500 Non-Renewable:

This scholarship is awarded to international high school graduates starting their first year of undergraduate studies. This entrance scholarship amounts to $500. Eligible students must enroll as full-time students and take a minimum of 12 credits per term during the Fall/Winter semesters.

To qualify for the Award of Excellence, applicants must have achieved a minimum B average (or its equivalent in their country) on their previous academic record.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • International students being considered for the mentioned scholarships must possess a temporary resident visa as a member of the student class under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act on the first day of classes.
  • All students who are required to pay the international differential fee, which includes university transfers, second-degree students, college diploma graduates, and college transfer students, are eligible for the Entrance Scholarship.
  • To qualify for these scholarships, students must satisfactorily complete all their qualifying requirements in the academic year prior to their enrollment at Algoma University.
  • It’s essential to understand that international scholarships cannot be deferred under any circumstances. Students must accept the terms and conditions of admission and the scholarship offered for the year it was initially granted.
  • As the awards require enrollment for two semesters within an academic year (Fall/Winter), students who start their studies in the Winter or Spring term will be considered for awards in the following academic year.
