The Turning the Tide Scholarship is a scholarship program offered by the University of Massachusetts (UMass) in Amherst, Massachusetts. The scholarship is aimed at high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to social justice and equity, and who have made significant efforts to reduce inequalities in their communities.

The Turning the Tide Scholarship provides full-tuition and room and board to recipients for all four years of their undergraduate education at UMass Amherst. The scholarship also includes a $3,500 stipend for study abroad or research opportunities.

To be eligible for the Turning the Tide Scholarship, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. In addition, applicants must submit a series of essays and other materials that demonstrate their commitment to social justice and equity.

The scholarship application deadline for the Turning the Tide Scholarship typically falls in early December, and applicants are notified of their status in late March or early April. In addition to study fees and an allowance, the PhD scholarship may also include research activities together with your supervisor, such as: a writing retreat, conference attendance and publication costs to the value of R52 500, based on application made for these funds during study period. In addition to study fees and an allowance, the Masters scholarship may also include research activities together with your supervisor, such as: a writing retreat, conference attendance and publication costs to the value of R20 375, based on application made for these funds during study period.
