Why is Shaka called Ilembe?
It was she – Princess Nandi of the Elangeni clan – who bestowed on Shaka the name ‘Ilembe’ to praise the ‘wisdom and courage’ of her son the king.

The cast of Mzansi Magic’s Shaka iLembe came out in their best 2023 outfits to glitz it up at the show’s premiere on Tuesday night (13 June).It was held at Montecasino in Joziburg and the decor was a celebration of Nguni culture, wrapped in an ambiance of then and now.

The who’s who of the cast were there, and the evening featured a screening of the first episode which premieres this Sunday 18 June at 20h00.

Lemogang Tsipa who portrays Shaka.Ntando Zondi who plays young Shaka.

Nomzamo Mbatha who plays Queen Nandi, Shaka’s mother.
She’s also one of the show’s executive producers, along with Desireé Markgraaff and Nhlanhla Mtaka.

Senzo Radebe who plays King Senzangakhona, Shaka’s father.

Dawn Thandeka King plays Princess Mkabayi,
King Senzangakhona’s sister and Shaka’s aunt.

Hope Mbele plays traditional healer Baleka – a fictional character who didn’t exist in real life.Sthandiwe Kgoroge plays King Senzangakhona’s mother,
Shaka’s grandmother.

Visual artist Trevor Stuurman, who created a photographic installation for the event, with Bomb’s Desireé Markgraaff and Angus Gibson, creative director of the series.

MultiChoice General Entertainment CEO Nomsa Philiso.

Muso Mbuso Khoza who performed songs from the show’s soundtrack with Ann Masina.
